Born on June 24, 1982 in Busan in South Korea, Ahn Sun Mi has studied photography from 2001 to 2003 in South Korea.
She decided to pursue her studies in France and arrived in 2004 in Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. She pursues her passion for photography.
She creates her first staged photographsand puts herself in front of her camera, using a remote control. Her self-portraits are carefully composed. Each detail is listed in the notebook that she carries with her all the time.
Sun Mi creates surrealist self-portraits exploring a world at the frontier between dream and reality. The nostalgia for childhood and fairy tales and her search of her own inaccessible femininity are the essence of her inspiration.
Faced to the fear of closing the door to a reassuring childhood and daring to cross the threshold of her own femininity and to adulthood, the young artist creates a silent and poetic universe, with her own levitating image, attracted toward this unknown journey in the infinite space of her own sexuality.
The art of Ahn Sun Mi is the testimony of her learning to live, a kind of psychoanalysis that she practices daily to apprehend her emotions and simply accept to grow.
