Biography

Chae Sung-Pil (1972, Jindo Island, South Korea) is a contemporary artist, a painter, who works only with natural materials, mostly various types of soil, which he uses as paint. He currently resides and works in Paris.

"I love earth," says Chae Sung-Pil. These words should be taken literally. Sung-Pil paints with earth: for paint he uses soil from all over the world, which he dilutes with water; he never uses clause chemicals, dyes or artificial materials. Cheerful and energetic, in painting Sung-Pil keeps away the from using the contrasting the colors and bright accents. With all their monumentality, his works are full of tranquility to the beholder and have a calming effect. Perhaps it is about the measured rhythm read in it; perhaps, it is the power of earth, which does not change even when everything around does.
