José Guerrero

Spain • 1914

Biography

Spanish painter and engraver framed within Abstract Expressionism, he studied at school of Art in Granada and later at San Fernando Academy in Madrid. He was one of the creators of Abstract Museum in Cuenca. Named as « Chevallier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Letters » by french government in 1959.

Gold Medal in Fine Arts in 1984. Awarded by Rodriguez Acosta Foundation in 1989. He travelled around Europe studying different artistic currents, specially the ones in Paris. It is in New York he approaches to another trend, passing from figuration to abstraction, and being close to action painting.
