André Affolter, dit Condé was born in Switzerland on February 29, 1920.

Between 1939 and 1943, he apprenticed with a marble sculptor and attended the Art School of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

In 1946, Condé moved to Paris and worked in the studio of Germaine Richier. His first solo exhibition took place in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1948. Between 1949 and 1955, he worked as a draftsman in technical advertising and produced terracotta sculptures and concrete and ceramic reliefs. He participated in the Salon de la jeune sculpture in Paris between 1949 and 1956.

The Swiss sculptor began to approach the technique of hammered and welded metal in 1960. From 1962, he worked with wood and was interested in expoxy resins. In 1966, he was invited to the international exhibition of contemporary sculpture at the Rodin museum in Paris, and in 1972 at the symposium of contemporary sculpture at the Faisanderie de la forêt de Sénart.

In 1977, Condé took part in the artistic development of the ZAC de Champ Roman in Saint-Martin-d'Hères. In 1981 he participated in the European Triennial of Sculpture at the Grand Palais in Paris.

He died on May 6, 2004.
