Adam Bracey was born near the Thames Estuary in the
United Kingdom. He graduated from Brighton University in 1988 and spent the
next fifteen years teaching art in the surrounding area, both at the university
and at local primary schools. He has since settled permanently in the Sussex
region and never strays far from the South coast, which is a major source of inspiration
for him. Bracey has had his works exhibited numerous times across England and Scotland,
in London, Edinburgh, Brighton, Shoreham, Lewes and Essex.
Adam Bracey's paintings often depict abstract interpretations
of realistic subjects, and his use of varied materials gives a unique texture
and a physical presence to his canvases. Despite their purely conceptual nature,
his works reflect concrete places which hold meaning for him. Most notably,
there are frequent evocations of the rugged lines of the British cliffs and the
swell of the waves. The colours and light reflects the changing of the seasons;
brightness and pinks for spring, then getting colder and almost clouding over
as winter approaches. All of Bracey's pictorial technique is inspired by
nature, and seeks to reflect the process behind its extraordinary seasonal
changes.
Through varying brush strokes, Bracey creates a
superimposition of unique colours which allow the viewer to appreciate the
grandeur of nature, often contrasted against man-made objects such as bullets
or abandoned military vehicles. Recently the artist has introduced scattered
figures across his canvases, lending a deeper perspective.
On Artsper you can find the original work of this unique
artist who has captured all the beauty and poetry of the countryside and coastline
of his native region, following in the footsteps of Cézanne, Gaugin, or
contemporary Jean-François Favre.
