Presentation

A self-taught artist, Arilès de Tizi worked in advertising before devoting himself fully to painting, drawing, photography and sculpture… his work is deeply borrowed from the notion of exile.

Born in Hussein Dey in Algeria in 1984, he moved to France in the early 90s when civil war broke out in his country. He grew up between the Parisian suburbs and the popular district of Belleville where he made his debut in graffiti and photography.

Inspired by the different cultures that rocked him, he explores the identity tensions of an urbanized and multicultural world by confronting the intimate with the collective and the political with the realm of the sacred. In February 2013 took place his first solo exhibition at the Lavignes gallery (Paris). He lives and works in New York.
