Presentation

Susana Aldanondo is an abstract expressionist artist based in the USA. Originally from Argentina, Aldanondo studied art at the Art Student's League of New York where artists like Jackson Pollock, Georgia O'Keefe, Larry Poons and Mark Rothko studied. Susana took classes with masters William Scharfe and Frank O'Cain.  Susana also holds a certificate in Abstract Art History studies and Art within Society and Identity by MoMA NYC. Susana holds a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and International Relations from Nord University, holds a degree in Translation Studies from Hunter College in New York and holds two certificates in Urban Ecology and Climate Change from Cornell University's Sustainable Cornell.  Susana whose father was an artist and muralist based in NYC, was exposed to art her whole life and would often accompany her father to sell his art in the streets of Soho, in NYC.

Recognized for her gestural lines and abstract style, Aldanondo has exhibited internationally and has won competitions including an art competition for an Art Magazine with jurors including The Mirken Family Foundation and The Newport Art Museum.  Her work is included in private collectors' homes and has recently been added to an exhibit at the Susquehanna Art Museum for their “Creating Joy" exhibit, focusing on Art inspired by music.  Susana's work is inspired by Tango, Jazz, Flamenco and Arabic Music as well as pop music she sometimes also listens to. Susana has become known for her unique creative process: Susana paints under the rain, and has been known for painting under the rain on the Brooklyn Bridge, in NYC. Susana is inspired by rain and wind, and never paints without music. The energy of rain marks her canvases in unique, unmatchable ways, something that her abstract style allows, and in it she identifies with the freedom of her spirit. The energy seen in the thin and thick brushstrokes, is influenced by the movement and energy that flows through her while she paints listening to music. To Aldanondo, painting and music go hand in hand.
