Biography

Born on June 1, 1982, "Schingi" is a very talented abstract artist who started woodcarving at the age of 6 at Tengenenge Gallery in Guruve. His father, Bernard Matemera, one of the pioneers of Shona art, was based there. Shingirai received his main inspiration from his work at Tengenenge. Unlike his father's work, much of his figures are abstract. He is able to work in a variety of media, but specializes mainly in serpentine.
