Tony Rocco, Circa 2019

Selwyn Senatori

This artwork is a captivating sculpture that immediately draws the viewer's attention with its whimsical and vibrant character design. The figure is small yet substantial, boasting a bold color palette primarily of pink, black, and white, which creates a striking visual contrast. The character's expression is notably sardonic and quirky, achieved through exaggerated facial features such as drooping eyelids and a pronounced, angular nose. One of the unique aspects of this piece is the artist's use of texture and form, adding depth to the sculpture. The hair is sculpted in a vivid pink, reminiscent of a flamboyant hairstyle, and the character's attire suggests a formal, perhaps satirical, persona. This is emphasized further by the addition of a detailed necklace, adding a hint of sophistication and satire to the piece. The use of glossy finish enhances the visual appeal, allowing light to reflect off the surface, emphasizing its contours. The artistic decision to play with proportions—such as the oversized head compared to a diminutive body—contributes to the overall surreal and humorous tone of the artwork. This sculpture stands as a testament to the artist's ability to combine elements of humor and critique, inviting viewers to explore themes of identity and presentation in a delightfully unorthodox manner.
