Description
From the Fashion series. This artwork features a striking portrait of a figure adorned in a luxurious ensemble. Dominated by a voluminous, textured black headdress, the composition creates a dramatic contrast against the subject's pale complexion. The lavish, golden-yellow garment envelops the figure, crafted with expressive brushstrokes that suggest opulence and warmth. The confident application of colors conveys a sense of boldness and flair, while the background supports the central figure with a muted, yet complementary, earthy tone. The subject's intense gaze and vivid lips add captivating intensity, suggesting a story of elegance and intrigue. The signature “M3” discreetly positioned in the corner, hints at the artist’s identity, adding a personal touch to this remarkable portrait. This piece combines dramatic texture with vivid color, effortlessly capturing attention and embodying sophisticated elegance.
Presentation
The worlds of fashion, society and pop culture are explored through the illustrations of Manuel Santelices, a Chilean artist and journalist living and working in New York for the last 20 years. After writing stories about style, design, art and politics for a number of magazines, including the Spanish editions of Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire, and being fashion writer in New York for Vogue Mexico and Latin American for 7 years, Manuel decided to focus his attention to illustration, painting mostly with watercolors the same characters and events he covered as a journalist.
