Description
This artwork exudes a remarkable blend of abstract expressionism and dynamic linearity. The composition is dominated by fluid and erratic lines, meticulously layered in red and black hues, intermingling to form an intricate, almost frenetic depiction. At first glance, the piece may appear chaotic, but a closer examination reveals a deliberate and evocative design. Centrally, the artwork showcases three elongated figures, identifiable by their round, almost shield-like heads. These figures seem to float, angular limbs extending in varying directions, suggesting a sense of movement or possibly confrontation. Their crisscrossed construction, marked by interlocking lines and nodes, gives them an ethereal and skeletal aspect, evoking both vulnerability and resilience. Behind these figures, a larger, more ambiguous form emerges. This backdrop possibly represents a vehicle or structure, constructed from a dense mesh of red and blue lines. The contrast between the vibrant, almost violent strokes of red and the colder, more somber blue introduces a stark dichotomy of emotions. The artist's technique of layering lines to build depth and texture is particularly compelling. The deliberate imperfection in the strokes lends the work a raw, visceral quality, capturing the viewer's eye and inviting prolonged contemplation. Each line, seemingly spontaneous yet precisely placed, contributes to the overall tension and dynamism of the piece. Overall, this artwork is a testament to the power of abstract forms and the use of minimalistic elements to convey complex narratives. Its blend of aggression and fragility, chaos and order, captivates and challenges the observer, making it an evocative and memorable piece.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
