Davy de Luxembourg, 2024

Andy Berrend

This captivating work of art has a bold, stylized face that is characteristic of the cubist movement. Facial features are exaggerated and distorted, creating an impression of dynamism and complexity. The eyes, disproportionate and expressive, dominate the composition with their intense golden shade. They seem to fix the viewer with intriguing depth.
The choice of bright, contrasting colours, including intense blue cheeks and lipstick, adds a vibrant dimension to the canvas. The face is defined by black contours, which accentuate angular shapes and geometric lines. The visible brush strokes give the work a rich texture, amplifying the raw and expressive character of the whole.
A notable detail is the asymmetrical crown at the top of the head, perhaps symbolizing some form of royalty or inner power. The purple and green elements scattered on the front add a mystical and intriguing dimension, suggesting external or spiritual influences.
This piece reveals the artist’s ability to mix abstraction and figuration, creating a work that challenges and questions traditional norms of representation. It invites the audience to immerse themselves in a world where emotion prevails over reality, captivating by its complexity and audacity.
