Contemporary Impressionist pastel of an autumnal woodland scene by Belgian artist Francis Besson. Signed to the very bottom right and presented in a simple gold contemporary frame under glass (artwork to be shipped without glass to avoid damage).
A whirl of oranges, yellow and gold shape this gorgeously sumptuous pastel of a woodland in autumn. The painting has the same jewel like feeling as the forest landscapes of Gustave Klimt. The colours of the leaves are striking and warm interrupted only by minimal traces of tree trunks and branches. The use of pastel softens the whole effect and gives an impressionistic feeling. At points the painting is laced with pastel powder to give structure and depth. A thoroughly enchanting work of art to lose yourself in.
Besson was born in Dundee (Scotland) in 1943 however as a young child moved to Belgium where he later became famous as an actor. His family kept a second home in Cotignac in Provence which he visited often until finally going to live there himself in the early 2000's.
Francis Besson now lives and works in the beautiful village of Cotignac in Provence in the south of France. His often impressionistic almost pointillist work is inspired by the nature he sees around him in this lovely part of the world. The intensity of the light , the rocks and forests of Provence all feature in his paintings.
He is known for both landscapes and abstract works and has often collaborated with other local artists.
