Description
This captivating work, titled "Homologia," is an illustration where simplicity and complexity harmoniously meet. At first glance, a purple line drawing captures the attention, depicting a face with an intriguing expression, bordered by a frame adorned with repetitive geometric patterns. The dynamic contrast between the soft contours of the face and the rigor of the geometric lines creates a striking visual tension. The economy of color accentuates the intensity of the drawing, directed by a remarkable finesse of line. Above, the handwritten word "Homologia" adds a personal dimension to the work, while the signature in the lower right affirms its authenticity. This piece challenges with its balance between abstraction and figuration, inviting the viewer to reflect on identity and the homology between interiority and exteriority.
(1971), in, Original drawings by Valerio Adami, Paris, Galilée. Text by Pascal Quignard.
Presentation
Valerio Adami is in Italian painter born on March 17, 1935 in the Italian city of Bologna. He is famous for his paintings with surfaces of flashy outlined by thick black lines, reminding of comics. He divides his time between France and Italy.
Adami was educated at Academy Brera in Milan between 1952 and 1954. He traveled to paris for the first time in 1955, where he met Roberto Matta. His first solo exhibition came in 1957 in Milan, with works inspired by Matta's surrealism.
In the late '60s, he became part of the Nouvelle Figuration (New Figuration) movement. Adami began to address politics in his art, and incorporated subject matter such as modern European history, literature, philosophy, and mythology. Adami's artworks were expressionistic, but around the time of his second exhibition in 1964 at Kassel, he had developed a style of painting reminiscent of French cloisonnism, featuring regions of flat colour bordered by black lines. The artist subjects were highly stylized and often presented in fragments, as seen in Telescoping Rooms.
