Description
This work is part of the "Latent Traces" series.
I am currently working on reactivating the works that my grandfather bequeathed to me at the end of his life.
Reinterpreted by an AI to whom I told my story, as well as that of my ancestor, I try to establish a dialogue between the works of the past, the futuristic projections of future works made by deep learning and the traditional techniques that I use today.
A triple vision, formally brought together in the same finite space, the frame, which here takes on a symbolic dimension.
How do we define a collaboratively created work and a code?
I choose from my grandfather's works, based solely on my feelings, the one that will feed the AI.
I only request one image generation and I take the first result provided.
The work I'm developing falls somewhere between the two, and many details are missing from the original. I have to extrapolate and imagine the source by constantly going back and forth between the two versions I have.
The materials will also vary as I plan to use the equipment and blank sheets of paper that were passed down to me by my grandfather.
This work is distinguished by the ingenious assemblage of three pieces centered on a single subject: a chair. On the left, a vibrant painting presents the wooden chair against a warm-toned background, enhanced by what appear to be fruits placed on its seat, adding a touch of bright and unexpected color. On the right, a pencil drawing captures light and shadow, revealing the object's detailed structure and simple elegance. Below, a small photograph offers a realistic perspective, grounding the series in the physicality of everyday life. The L-shaped arrangement of the frame seamlessly connects the pieces, creating a dynamic visual dialogue. This work explores the diversity of techniques and perspectives, transforming an ordinary object into a captivating study of form and texture.
This captivating work presents an elegantly framed tripartite composition. At its center, an authentic botanical illustration depicts a plant with clean lines and vibrant shades of green, accompanied by precise Latin text that evokes an 18th-century scientific exploration. To the right, a black-and-white sketch captures the essence of the sinuous roots, adding a striking graphic dimension. In the upper right, a modern photograph of a natural environment enriches the visual narrative by linking the past to the present. The ingeniously designed, asymmetrical frame guides the eye through the different representations of the plant, each section illuminating a distinct aspect of its beauty and complexity. This harmonious juxtaposition of techniques and eras offers a reflection on nature and science, underscoring the universality and enduring nature of botanical study.
