Hayri Şengün's works on paper occupy a central place within his artistic practice, evolving alongside and in constant dialogue with his sculptures rather than existing as preparatory studies. They constitute an autonomous field of experimentation where ideas are tested, transformed, and revisited, often circulating back into three-dimensional form. Across these drawings, figuration and abstraction remain deliberately unstable: at times faint human or animal presences emerge, while elsewhere organic masses, hybrid creatures, or purely gestural compositions resist any fixed identification. This oscillation between recognition and ambiguity reflects the artist's ongoing interest in transformation, tactility, and the fluid boundaries between bodies, objects, and imagined forms. Together, these works on paper reveal an essential dimension of Şengün's practice, tracing the visual language that continuously informs and expands his sculptural universe.
