Description
The gaze captures attention. A huge eye opens onto a dreamlike landscape. The line is precise. The ballpoint pen and acrylic unite to create a striking contrast.
The white of the eye brings an almost clinical clarity. Around it, a rain of white dots sows doubt. Are they drops of water or stardust? The skin seems to transform into a galaxy.
The Nigerian artist explores here the boundary between the human and the strange. Each lash is drawn with geometric rigor. The repetition of motifs creates a hypnotic visual rhythm.
The technical approach emphasizes a mastery of detail. The deep black anchors the composition. The light plays with the textures to suggest an augmented reality.
This creation dates from 2017. It skillfully mixes classical drawing and an abstract vision. The whole stabilizes on a discreet signature in the bottom right.
Presentation
Ara Deinde (born Aralola Oladeinde) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Ibadan, Nigeria. Born in Lagos, he developed an early engagement with art through constant drawing and visual experimentation, a commitment that eventually led him to leave his studies in Agricultural Engineering in 2019 to pursue an independent artistic practice.
Ara was an artist-in-residence at KUTA Art Foundation in 2020 and 2021, an experience that significantly shaped his studio discipline and conceptual approach. His works have been exhibited in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States, and he has undertaken several notable painting and mural commissions. He draws inspiration from artists such as Toyin Ojih Odutola, James Grashow, Florian Baudrexel, Pablo Picasso, and Yayoi Kusama, Ara’s work reflects an ongoing interest in form, narrative, and the layered realities of contemporary life.
