Description
A red atmosphere dominates this composition. The eye is immediately drawn to a solitary figure. Their silhouette stands out against a linear and deep background. The face, treated in an abstract manner, suggests deep introspection. Headphones surround their neck, a symbol of a voluntary withdrawal into a personal sound space.
The work on color creates visual tension. The carmine and purple shades stretch towards the horizon. The subject's clothing brings a chromatic contrast with organic and rhythmic patterns. The artist plays with perspective to accentuate the impression of isolation.
This painting skillfully blends portrait and abstraction. The technique combines oil and acrylic to obtain varied textures. The geometric lines of the background structure the space and guide the eye towards an invisible vanishing point. The whole evokes a contemporary reality where the individual retreats into their own bubble. This work was created in 2022.
Presentation
Ara Deinde (born Aralola Oladeinde) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Ibadan, Nigeria. Born in Lagos, he developed an early engagement with art through constant drawing and visual experimentation, a commitment that eventually led him to leave his studies in Agricultural Engineering in 2019 to pursue an independent artistic practice.
Ara was an artist-in-residence at KUTA Art Foundation in 2020 and 2021, an experience that significantly shaped his studio discipline and conceptual approach. His works have been exhibited in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States, and he has undertaken several notable painting and mural commissions. He draws inspiration from artists such as Toyin Ojih Odutola, James Grashow, Florian Baudrexel, Pablo Picasso, and Yayoi Kusama, Ara’s work reflects an ongoing interest in form, narrative, and the layered realities of contemporary life.
