Description
This print explores a dreamlike landscape where memory and imagination intertwine. The gaze travels between geometric shapes and organic silhouettes. A green dome dominates the composition. It evokes ancestral architectures. At the top, a stylized bird seems to watch over this scene.
The technique used brings remarkable tactile richness. The work of the textures creates a subtle relief. The precise hatching structures the space. They contrast with more fluid and diffuse areas.
The palette is composed of earthy tones and turquoise shades. This chromatic choice emphasizes the influence of a dual culture. The artist fuses here his Iranian roots and his Western academic background. The whole approaches a surrealist aesthetic.
The line is sure and rhythmic. It draws contours that oscillate between abstraction and figuration. Each detail invites a personal reading. The influence of mastered engraving techniques is perceived in it. The composition balances between the weight of the central forms and the lightness of the yellow lines in the background.
Presentation
Chahab was born in 1951 in Tehran, residing in France since 1974, he lives and works in Nay (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
Graduated from the Arts décoratifs of Nice, and from the École des Beaux-Arts of Aix-en-Provence, student of Henri Goetz for carburum engraving technique.
Painter, engraver, and sculptor, he plays with registers of various materials and textures. Heir to a dual culture, he likes to evoke through the imagination the ancient sites of his native Iran and during his Western training, his attraction to surrealism leads him to recreate a teeming universe of forms and colors.
