Elvis Presley
The figure of Elvis Presley holds a central place in the imagination of global popular culture and continues to inspire many contemporary artists through iconographic homage, appropriation, and graphic reinterpretation.
A true visual as well as musical myth, his image alone embodies several decades of fascination with the American star system, rock and roll, and the aesthetics of the 1950s and 1960s. A direct heir of Pop Art, his portrait was immortalized by Andy Warhol in the 1960s, making the singer one of the emblematic motifs of a movement that elevated popular icons to the status of artworks.
Since then, his image has continually been explored and reinvented through painting, photography, silkscreen printing, and limited editions, with each artist projecting their own interpretation of celebrity, the American myth, or twentieth century visual culture. From hyperrealist approaches to more abstract compositions, as well as street art and pop figuration, Elvis becomes a field of experimentation where collective memory and individual artistic gesture intersect.
On Artsper, this selection brings together works by international artists who revisit the King through varied visual languages, reflecting the ability of an icon to transcend time and continue nourishing contemporary creation long after his passing.
