Description
Milky Way reveals the breathtaking wonder of our home galaxy.
From an altitude of 2,150 meters, closer to the stars, I captured its silent trail. This image is a tribute to the vastness and beauty of the cosmos, revealing details hidden from the naked eye.
For this shot, I used a legendary Rolleiflex 2.8f, an unconventional choice that relies on pure optical precision rather than digital sensors. In the darkroom, the print was processed by hand on baryta paper and toned with selenium (a technique used to transform silver into a more stable and durable metal), achieving a maximum black depth that allows the stars to shine as if you were standing right beneath them.
Presentation
I'm Francesco Mussida, an Italian fine art photographer and darkroom fine art printer working exclusively with black and white analog processes.
My studio is based in Abruzzo (Italy), I work with vintage cameras, film, and silver gelatin paper.
My main focus is the relationship between humans and the plant world, explored through posture, gesture, and the emotional qualities of form. I aim to reveal not only what nature looks like, but how it feels.
I choose to photograph analog to preserve the natural distance between observer and subject. In a world dominated by speed and control, I value variables: time, light, movements and the imperfections they bring.
