Description
Simiana stems from the observation of an ancient detail inscribed in our bodies: a line running along the palm of the hand that reminds us how closely connected we are to every living being. Not a legacy to be hidden, but a debt we all too often take for granted.
On a 6x6 cm negative, two exposures taken with a 1960s Rolleiflex overlap: an open hand and a passion flower blossoming in the centre of the palm. The gesture is that of one who welcomes and observes.
An image of the necessary delicacy, of the ability to observe the other and give them our attention.
Silver salt print on Ilford MGFB Classic Glossy paper, hand-developed in the darkroom and finished with a custom sepia toning. Edition of 20, signed and numbered.

Presentation
I'm Francesco Mussida, an Italian fine art photographer and darkroom fine art printer working exclusively with black and white analog processes.
My studio is based in Abruzzo (Italy), I work with vintage cameras, film, and silver gelatin paper.
My main focus is the relationship between humans and the plant world, explored through posture, gesture, and the emotional qualities of form. I aim to reveal not only what nature looks like, but how it feels.
I choose to photograph analog to preserve the natural distance between observer and subject. In a world dominated by speed and control, I value variables: time, light, movements and the imperfections they bring.
