Description
The photographic project 'Under a lucky star' intertwines the mystery guarded by turtles with the myth and symbolism they embody.
This work aims to invite the public to focus their attention on the relationship between human rationality and our need to witness the inscrutable mystery of the cosmos and nature.
The series of images, shot in analogue black and white and printed manually in a darkroom, aims to represent, with a dreamlike aesthetic, the sacredness of a moment experienced and shared almost as if facing a messianic, supernatural or extraterrestrial event.
The darkness, the constellations, the tracks in the sand and the salvific presence of the sea that will welcome the little turtles: “Under a lucky star" is the story of a wait.
Presentation
I'm Francesco Mussida, an Italian fine art photographer and darkroom fine art printer working exclusively with black and white analog processes.
My studio is based in Abruzzo (Italy), I work with vintage cameras, film, and silver gelatin paper.
My main focus is the relationship between humans and the plant world, explored through posture, gesture, and the emotional qualities of form. I aim to reveal not only what nature looks like, but how it feels.
I choose to photograph analog to preserve the natural distance between observer and subject. In a world dominated by speed and control, I value variables: time, light, movements and the imperfections they bring.
