Flat Layer Black, 2015

Mattia Novello   New & remarkable Artists

This compelling artwork presents a striking monochrome composition, centered on a bold, circular form. The central element is a large, commanding ring rendered in stark black and white contrast. This ring exudes a sense of depth and texture, intricately detailed with radial striations and segments that evoke the feel of an ancient tree trunk cross-section or a remnant of unearthed archaeological significance. The flawless white core of the circle acts as an enigmatic void, drawing the eye inward and inviting contemplation. Encircling this void is a densely layered ring of black, marked with meticulous, almost tactile lines that suggest both organic growth and meticulous craftsmanship. This interplay between the smooth central void and the detailed outer ring creates a dynamic tension, making the viewer oscillate between calm introspection and stimulated curiosity. The backdrop of the canvas is an unyielding black, which starkly contrasts and enhances the central ring, ensuring it remains the focal point. This minimalist background serves to amplify the dramatic impact of the central motif, allowing no distraction from the viewer’s engagement with the circle. The artwork's unique aspects lie in its ability to evoke a myriad of interpretations while maintaining a clear and assertive visual identity. Its mastery in balancing simplicity with complexity, and austerity with intricacy, makes it a timeless piece that commands attention and contemplation. This piece is not just seen; it is experienced, beckoning a deeper exploration of its rich textures and profound symbolism.
