Spinta Tire, 2015

Mattia Novello   New & remarkable Artists

This artwork is a striking representation of minimalistic sculpture, showcasing a single tire enveloped in an immaculate coat of white paint. The piece stands out for its stark simplicity and the transformative approach to an otherwise mundane object. By stripping the tire of its conventional black hue and presenting it in a pristine white, the artist compels the viewer to reassess the object's identity and purpose. The tire's placement on a similarly white plinth further accentuates the purity and uniformity of the composition. This monochromatic palette largely eliminates shadows and contrasts, allowing the viewer’s focus to rest on the texture and form of the tire itself. The grooves and treads, meticulously detailed and highlighted by the paint, are emphasized, turning an everyday object into an abstract pattern of lines and curves. Uniquely, this work challenges perceptions of utility and art, propelling an object associated with movement and travel into the static realm of sculpture. It raises questions about industrialization, consumerism, and the potential for beauty in the ordinary. The stark, whitewashed aesthetic evokes a sense of timelessness and purity, while the tire’s inherent connection to motion and wear speaks to themes of endurance and transformation. Overall, this piece stands as a testament to the power of context and presentation in altering perception, transforming a common object into a focal point for contemplation and artistic appreciation.
