Description
Inga Makarova’s My Heart Is Not a Stone is a sculptural painting that probes beneath the surface of stereotype. A spray-painted hoodie, stretched and lacquered onto canvas, opens like a metaphorical curtain to reveal a hand-painted anatomical heart glittering at its centre. Just above it, the Russian phrase “МОЕ СЕРДЦЕ НЕ КАМЕНЬ” (“My heart is not a stone”) is stencilled in bold red, punctuating the tension between outer façade and emotional truth.
Makarova draws on subcultural motifs often associated with aggression and street masculinity, yet here reinterprets them with compassion and complexity. The hoodie – typically a symbol of toughness or defiance – becomes a frame for vulnerability. The heart, rendered in glitter and enamel, pulses with sincerity and contradiction.
Executed with enamel, spray paint, glitter, and textile, this mixed-media piece is ready to hang and loaded with conceptual depth. It is ideal for collectors drawn to street aesthetics, sociocultural critique, or emotionally charged contemporary art.
Presentation
“To create something meaningful, something real, you should truly love what you do, as well as the way you do it, and always be passionate about it. For me art will never turn into a boring routine, as I truly enjoy transferring my thoughts and ideas into artworks." Inga Makarova
Inga Makarova is an award-winning Ukrainian painter, sculptor and draftsman. With a background in fashion and graphic design, she translates both worlds into her mixed media compositions. Inga is constantly experimenting with new themes, concepts, images, new combination of colours and forms. Lately, in addition to various sources of light (like neon or LED that are used directly in her artworks), she also started experimenting with various objects that are often quite far from art, for example sport jackets, tableware, cutlery, and even cigarette butts. Inga Makarova's desire to innovate, rather than imitate, allows her to turn even the most ordinary themes into something new, unique, and fresh, once it got reflected in her artworks.
