Origin: France

"Jean-Baptiste Dumont offers us partially naked bodies, bodies in tension, twisting, abandonment, undressing. The flesh does not seem so present as the fabric which (un)veils them.
"What matters is the moment."
The fabric catches our eye, arouses our curiosity. The shirt, like a mist, envelops a torso in mystery, drapes clouds of dreams and daydreams over a round belly, a tortured arm, an unveiled shoulder.
The tangible presence of this textile mass reminds us of the foggy sky of his seascapes and illuminates the white canvas veined with touches of grey, blue, pink... The crumpled, bubbled, draped fabrics give a relief and a presence that rivals once again with the dark and nevertheless luminous tints, diluted with poetry and softness that he paints so well. The body in all its states continues to fascinate our artist." - Gersende Petoux

Jean-Baptiste Dumont is a French painter born in 1975. He works and lives in Calais.

This is what the artist says of himself:

"I am self-taught and I search tirelessly through my subjects the essence of human nature.

The faces, the bodies that I paint, that I carve, are only made of feelings and resentment, I caressed them, I mistreat them, I work on them... almost to the point of suffocation.

And it is in this silence that my works speak, are indulging in conversations without end. A face to face talk during which the spectator cannot remain indifferent to these serious, tormented expressions, and at the same time serene, humble ... and then fragile.

My work either seduces, or it disturbs?
