Description

This compelling artwork, titled "ART STEALER," confronts the viewer with an unmissable and assertive statement spread boldly across the canvas in graffiti style. Dominating the composition are the words "ART STEALER" painted in a striking, thick, white font that starkly contrasts with the vigorous reds and deep blacks beneath it. The word "ART," slightly elevated above "STEALER," adds a layered depth and a sense of hierarchy to the text. The piece is further intensified by the intentional dripping of red and black paint from the letters, creating a raw and somewhat rebellious aesthetic. These drips lend a sense of movement and urgency, as if the words were hurriedly spray-painted, invoking the visceral energy of street art. Each stroke and smear of paint conveys a palpable tension, directing the viewer’s mind towards thoughts of authenticity, ownership, and the provocative nature of appropriation in contemporary art. The artist’s use of simple, yet powerful, elements —the primary palette of red, white, and black alongside the dripping effect— emboldens the artwork’s impactful message. The stark white background ensures that nothing detracts from the abrasive honesty of the text, creating a visually captivating experience. This unique combination challenges the observer to reflect and engage critically with the concepts of creativity and intellectual property. The choice of graffiti as a medium speaks volumes about the raw and unfiltered communication that this piece aims to evoke. It is a robust statement on the commodification of art and the ongoing dialogue about originality and ownership within the art world. "ART STEALER" is not merely an artwork; it is a bold declaration, an unapologetic confrontation that demands attention and introspection.

Presentation

My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.

Statement

Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.

My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
