Description
This artwork is a striking charcoal drawing featuring a seated male figure rendered with expressive strokes. The artist employs a raw, unfiltered approach, emphasizing the physical form through bold, dynamic lines and intricate shading. The subject exudes a sense of vulnerability and confidence, positioned provocatively to confront the viewer. Sparse use of color highlights specific areas, creating a subtle contrast against the monochrome backdrop. The loose, sketch-like quality evokes immediacy and spontaneity, capturing the essence of the human form with both intensity and intimacy. Noteworthy is the attention to anatomical detail and the textured portrayal of musculature, which draws the observer into a deeper contemplation of the human condition. This compelling piece challenges traditional notions of form and composition, leaving a lasting impression through its raw, visceral representation.
Presentation
Celso Castro is a reference in Colombian Caribbean plastic arts who has drawn, painted, sculpted and photographed penises for more than four decades.
In his works, Castro exalts the male genitalia, putting into tension the limits imposed by the sex/gender system that are part of an unquestioned patriarchal and phallocentric order. Most men
The ones he portrays are inhabitants of the Colombian coast, also constructing alternative ways of conceiving Latin American identity.
By breaking taboos on corporality and male sexuality, his work has been censored on many occasions due to public accusations of immorality and pornography.
