Description
This artwork, marked by its textural complexity and monochrome palette, revolves around a repetitive pattern of vertical stripes. At first glance, it appears to consist of a series of parallel lines alternating between dark and light shades. The dominant use of black and gray tones creates an impression of depth and gives the piece an almost three-dimensional quality, despite the flatness of the surface. The apparent regularity of the pattern is disrupted by subtle variations in the thickness and density of the lines, sometimes more spaced out, sometimes more condensed. These irregularities add a discreet but powerful dynamism, inviting the viewer to explore every minute detail. One is constantly drawn to the small imperfections, interruptions, and variations, which seem to reveal a methodical yet inherently human artistic process. The contrasts of light play a crucial role, offering the work a rich range of tones. Some parts of the stripes seem to almost merge into darkness, while others, bathed in light, emerge with striking clarity. This gives the piece a certain duality, a constant struggle between shadow and light, between order and chaos. The whole evokes both industrial references, reminiscent of machinery and metallurgical structures, and natural elements, such as erosive traces or geological patterns. This juxtaposition enhances the unique character of the work, inviting both visual contemplation and intellectual reflection. In summary, this artwork embodies remarkable technical mastery and artistic sensitivity. It finely balances repetition and variation, apparent simplicity and underlying complexity, creating a rich and deeply captivating visual experience.
Presentation
Painting as a fullness of color
Painting until then in a semi-figurative style, it was in 2012 following his move to Burgundy that a real renaissance took place in Laurent Prudot's work.
The form then completely disappears from his concerns, and it is at the end of this year 2012 that his interest in the abstract becomes the center of his research.
In total contradiction with his previous works, Laurent Prudot now sees life as an explosion of light and colors.
A “geometric" abstractionIt was at this time that the use of his "Monotamprientes", a mixture of monotype, imprint, and stamp, which he made himself, resurfaced.
This abstraction that he describes as “geometric" takes the form of regular squares and other vertical line-signs, with an idea of repetition and assumed rehashing very present in all of his work.
He explores the different possible variations and plays between the intensity of the colors and the white of the support, which gives his approach all its singularity.
From the semi-figurative style of his beginnings, the artist has evolved towards a clearer, more architectural, more constructed art.
We could easily attribute Paul Valéry's words to Laurent Prudot: "Nothing is more dangerous than making painting speak. Painting is something to look at."
Thus, thanks to the importance of rhythm between forms and space, his work expresses itself and succeeds in engaging his audience in a true poetic experience.
