Description
This captivating artwork immortalizes a picturesque vision of New York immersed in a winter wonderland. The panorama reveals a city monumentally transformed by snow, where skyscrapers rise like pillars of ice. The composition is divided into two panels, emphasizing the grandeur and depth of this metropolis. Subtle shades of blue and purple imbue the scene with a surreal, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Retro-futuristic elements, such as the airship and floating structures, add an imaginative and dynamic dimension. The meticulous details, from the frozen harbor to the snowy pathways, invite the viewer to explore every corner of this enchanting universe. This painting is a bold celebration of urban architecture fused with winter's beauty.
Presentation
Dominique Vervisch was born in 1953 in Sotteville-lès-Rouen. A graduate of the Rouen School of Fine Arts, he lives and works in Normandy.
Considered by his peers as a visionary painter, the artist likes to say that he "pedals against the climate". In his works, the emblematic monuments of large metropolises such as Paris, Shanghai, New York, Venice and Rouen are sometimes covered in snow, sometimes submerged.
These landscapes plunged into an eternal winter are populated by penguins, emblematic characters of Vervisch's work. The animal aims to question the functioning of our society on the capacity of man to conceive his existence in an adaptive and non-appropriative form.
Through his work, Dominique Vervisch shares climate change in a "climato-ironic" way, with a shift and mystification in the hope of succeeding in re-enchanting the future of our planet.
