Description
This captivating artwork presents an intriguing scene under the monumental glass dome of the Grand Palais, bathed in intense blue light. In the center, a globe sits majestically, seemingly melting, symbolizing the fragility of nature in the face of the surrounding industrial elements. The colorful containers, stacked in disorder around this globe, contrast sharply with it, illustrating the clash between nature and modern industry. Two penguins, at the bottom right, add a touch of life and vulnerability to the whole. The artist succeeds in creating an atmosphere that is both serene and disturbing, captivating the viewer with an improbable and surrealist staging. The harmonious juxtaposition of grandiose architecture, natural and industrial elements provokes a deep reflection on contemporary ecological issues. The composition imposes its presence through its originality and its powerful message.
Presentation
Dominique Vervisch was born in 1953 in Sotteville-lès-Rouen. A graduate of the Rouen School of Fine Arts, he lives and works in Normandy.
Considered by his peers as a visionary painter, the artist likes to say that he "pedals against the climate". In his works, the emblematic monuments of large metropolises such as Paris, Shanghai, New York, Venice and Rouen are sometimes covered in snow, sometimes submerged.
These landscapes plunged into an eternal winter are populated by penguins, emblematic characters of Vervisch's work. The animal aims to question the functioning of our society on the capacity of man to conceive his existence in an adaptive and non-appropriative form.
Through his work, Dominique Vervisch shares climate change in a "climato-ironic" way, with a shift and mystification in the hope of succeeding in re-enchanting the future of our planet.
