Description
This work is a striking example of modern abstract art. It is distinguished by its bold use of black and white, creating a powerful contrast that instantly captures the eye. Energetic, flowing strokes dominate the composition, evoking a sense of movement and dynamism. White splashes and splotches punctuate the canvas, adding a spontaneous, rhythmic dimension. The textured aspect of the work suggests a hidden depth, inviting the viewer to explore every nook and cranny. The balance between apparent chaos and visual harmony lends this piece a bewitching complexity. The painting is thought-provoking, leaving room for interpretation and imagination, and bears witness to exceptional technical mastery.
Presentation
Pierre Marescau is a French painter born in Oise in 1947.
In 1963, he entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués à l'Industrie on Rue du Petit Thouars in Paris’ 3rd arrondissement. He received the painting prize in 1967.
His work has been exhibited in several Parisian galleries located in the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 20th arrondissements.
In 2008, and in his own words, he "went underground" by moving to live and work in the Aubusson region of Creuse. There, he met master weaver Bernard Battu, who wove several of his works. One of these pieces entered the collections of the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie in Aubusson in 2023.
His work is currently represented by Galerie Faidherbe in Paris, Galerie Jabert, and Galerie Le Libre Regard in Aubusson.
In 2024, he is setting up a new studio in Vétheuil in Val d'Oise.
