Description
This captivating work depicts a colourful jester character, dressed in a flamboyant diamond-patterned costume typical of the commedia dell'arte. His spectacular headdress, adorned with red and blue feathers, immediately catches the eye. He stands by a river, on the steps of a building of ancient architecture, suggesting a historical urban scene. Beside him rests a lute, evoking a connection to music and performance. The background features blurred silhouettes of passersby along the quay, adding a touch of mystery and movement. The vibrant colours of the costume contrast with the darker tones of the cityscape and blue water, creating an intriguing visual tension. This painting explores the theme of the duality between the artist and the city, between performance and everyday life, in a scene rich in detail and emotion.
Presentation
Born in 1958, French of Armenian origin, Sylvie PULUR grew up in Marseille. After studying accounting in Paris, she rediscovered her passion for drawing and painting six years ago, after raising four children. Since then, she has devoted herself entirely to her art. A self-taught artist, she uses various techniques such as charcoal, graphite, ink, watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic for her creations on canvas and paper. Her work is distinguished by a subtle play of color contrasts and emotions, inviting meditation and reverie. Her works are unique and imaginary, marked by significant periods of her life.
Sylvie PULUR's works reflect key moments in her life. The series "Les Marines" evokes her arrival in France by boat, with about twenty oil and acrylic paintings influenced by Ivan Aivazovsky's seascapes. Passionate about the Roaring Twenties and Art Deco, [he/she] also produced numerous sketches representing women of various origins, inspired by black and white photographs and the works of Tamara de Lempicka and Edward Hopper.
