Description
In , Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle explores the tension between power and submission through an imposing and charismatic female figure. The color palette dominated by a deep gold background, contrasting with the raw black and pale skin tones, evokes an atmosphere that is both sacred and carnal. The female figure's gaze, half-closed, half-defiant, suggests a posture of absolute control, reinforced by the deliberately disjointed but controlled body posture.
The foot extended toward the viewer stands out as an explicit gesture of domination, reinforcing the reference to fetishism and veneration. The contrast between the pink flesh of the legs and the dominant black of the clothing intensifies this dynamic between desire and submission. Resolutely expressionist, the artist's style, with its marked contours and raw features, conveys a form of intense psychological tension. The figure seems both enthroned and elusive, embodying worship and domination.
This interplay between adoration and domination is part of an artistic tradition that questions power relations, while updating the codes of fetishism and veneration. The outstretched foot becomes the focal point, a symbol of submission and adoration, establishing a hierarchical, almost religious, relationship between the figure represented and the viewer.
Presentation
Self-taught, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle has always maintained an emotional relationship with his artistic practice: the feeling is his favorite exploration territory. From the very beginning, he goes where his instinct guides him. He prefers to photograph his model from different angles in order to choose what interests him in a pose, rather than retranscribing the primary truth.
An obsession, the hands. Possessive, fragile or powerful, sensual or anonymous, they emerge as spectres to capture the attention and to give the essential emotional charge of the composition.
Through his erratic line, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle tracks down emotions to expose them. He explores the sensitive, the ephemeral, the fragile. By accumulation or deletion, the eye is lost and the individuals disappear: infinite embraces, perpetual, by self forgetfulness or other forgetfulness, the features and the personalities fade away.
To express this research, an obvious medium, drawing. Then painting. However even through this one, the drawing emerges faces like an indelible mark. Saturation, breathing, its repentances are apparent: it scratches erases, erases and underlines its subject. Forbidding himself the use of an eraser, his technique is in the image of his subject: embodied, raw and spontaneous.
