A contemporary impressionist view of a vineyard in Provence in oil on canvas by Dutch artist Bernadette Van Baarsen. Presented in a black and fold wood frame. Signed and dated to the bottom left.
This artwork is a striking landscape that captures the essence of a vineyard in autumn. The vibrant focal point is a solitary tree adorned with fiery orange and red leaves, drawing the viewer's eye with its vivid contrast against the surrounding greenery. The vineyard stretches into the background, displaying rows of grapevines in varying shades of yellow and green, suggesting a transition of seasons. The sky above is a textured, muted blue, adding depth and atmosphere to the scene. The thick brushstrokes and rich colors create a sense of movement and life, while the composition's balance invites reflection and appreciation. The painting's frame, a deep black with a gold inner edge, adds sophistication and enhances the overall visual impact. This piece uniquely captures the quiet beauty and changing moods of nature, making it an evocative addition to any art collection.
Bernadette ('Berna', as she autographs her works) VAN BAARSEN was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After finishing her high-school she followed training to be a nurse and architect, whilst at the same time being a lead singer in two Dutch punk bands and making sculptures in plexiglass. Later in life she decided to pursue an academic career and obtained a PhD in psychology and medical ethics. She worked as associate professor at the Free University of Amsterdam and was member of several high-level medical-ethical committees. In 2015 she settled in France. Being essentially autodidact, she took up painting, in particular after being inspired by the Provençal landscape and friendships with fellow artists. In recent years she has shown her work at successful exhibitions in Provence and elsewhere.
