Description
Contemporary Provençal landscape in oil on canvas by Dutch artist Bernadette Van Baarsen.
This vibrant artwork presents a dynamic landscape, characterized by swirling brushstrokes and vivid colors. The foreground features two winding paths, painted in fluid strokes of green, blue, and purple, suggesting movement and vitality. These paths lead the viewer's eye through a lush countryside adorned with expressive trees and undulating hills. The trees, depicted in rich purples and greens, add depth and contrast, standing against a radiant yellow sky that evokes a sense of energy and warmth. The interplay of colors and rhythmic lines creates a harmonious yet electrifying composition, imbued with an impressionistic flair. This piece captivates with its bold use of color and motion, inviting viewers to explore its whimsical landscape. Its dynamic composition and unrestrained palette make it a striking representation of nature's beauty, interpreted through an imaginative lens.
Presentation
Bernadette ('Berna', as she autographs her works) Van Baarsen was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After finishing her high-school, she followed training to be a nurse and architect, whilst at the same time being a lead singer in two Dutch punk bands and making sculptures in plexiglass. Later in life she decided to pursue an academic career and obtained a PhD in psychology and medical ethics. She worked as associate professor at the Free University of Amsterdam and was member of several high-level medical-ethical committees. In 2015, she settled in France. Being essentially autodidact, she took up painting, in particular after being inspired by the Provençal landscape and friendships with fellow artists. In recent years she has shown her work at successful exhibitions in Provence and elsewhere.
