Description
In Friends, Ukrainian artist Zakhar Shevchuk paints a deeply intimate and tender scene – a child resting their cheek gently against the head of a Boston Terrier. The boy's hand softly cradles the dog's face, forming a visual embrace that speaks of trust, care, and a love that needs no words. Rendered in expressive brushstrokes and a dreamlike palette of pastel blues, soft skin tones, and earthy accents, the painting radiates calm affection and emotional truth.
What sets this piece apart is the way Shevchuk dissolves boundaries between subject and background. The swirling textures envelop the pair, suggesting a shared world of emotional resonance and unspoken understanding. The child's half-smile and the dog's solemn, loyal gaze reflect a bond forged in stillness and presence. Shevchuk captures not only the outward features of his subjects, but the quiet emotional thread that binds them.
Friends is a celebration of companionship in its purest form. A deeply poetic and textural work, it is ideal for collectors seeking figurative art that evokes empathy, quiet joy, and human-animal connection through painterly depth.
Presentation
“I try to simplify the form to the point when it feels that nothing else shall be removed and only the essential elements remain. I transfer my impressions and self-reflections about objects into my paintings. I express what I feel rather than how I see, often arriving somewhere between figurative and abstract art." Zakhar Shevchuk
Zakhar Shevchuk is a young professional painter and draftsman, he holds a master in arts degree from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine) and now himself teaches at the academy. His artworks are held in public and private collections worldwide, furthermore, he often participates in various public projects, such as painting murals and other monumental installations.
With years Zakhar's artistic style moved away from academic realism (which always tended closer to expressionism) and towards the style that in somewhere on the edge between figurative art and abstraction. In many of his works, even those that may seem as fully abstract ones, you will find some elements that were intentionally added, aiming to trick your brain into believing that you have finally found something recognisable, something that matches the reality, but then you suddenly loose it, starting the search over and over again.
