Description
This artwork presents a meticulously detailed spherical assembly resembling a futuristic or steampunk mechanism. Dominating a muted grey canvas, the sphere is intricately crafted with an array of geometric patterns, suggesting a complex, multi-layered structure. Its composition includes a network of metallic segments, interlocking gears, and enigmatic devices, inviting close inspection. Gold lines traverse the sphere, adding a hint of elegance and sophistication to the industrial aesthetic. In the upper right corner, a block of text resembles a technical blueprint, enhancing the impression of a machine built with purpose and precision. The artwork captivates with its blend of artistry and engineering, prompting viewers to contemplate the interplay between technology and creativity. Its unique style merges futuristic motifs with classical mechanical elements, creating a timeless yet avant-garde piece.
Presentation
The collaboration between Keng Wai Lee and Marco Araldi is based on the contrast between the techniques used. Marco uses ink pen and gold, creating geometrical patterns and graphic illustrations.
His background is in engineering and architecture, making him familiar with mathematical design and the awareness of geometry. Lee's technique frequents the use of acrylic, focusing on impressions of subjects taken from nature; flowers, picturesque scenery, ocean habitats, and birds. His gorgeously rich and colourful paintings are a synergy of decorative tableaux and depiction in paint on canvas of his memories and imagination.
The merging of these two different styles create a unique amalgamation of hard lines and soft painterly brushstrokes, working with the gilded canvases that give the artwork an extra dimension based on light refraction.
