Description
Mid Century Abstract in polymerised macro-molecular paint on canvas applied to a painted wooden board by Belgian artist Paul H Saffre. Signed and dated 1963 on the board below the canvas bottom right with applied certificate of authenticity to the reverse, also signed and dated with the no. of the work (no. 71). This painting is composed of layered acrylic paint and exemplifies the abstract geometric genre as seen in works by Piet Mondrian. The colour palette is sombre and moody as if looking through centuries old stained glass darkly. The work is highly textured through multiple layers of paint at times forming ridges and at points applied thinly to allow other colours to be seen through as if light were passing through the image.
