Description
Litv 1123
In "Self-portrait in 17th Century Costume", Ukrainian artist Daniil Litvinov presents himself as a grandiose, heroic figure towering over a battle scene, dressed in richly embroidered garments and a feathered turban reminiscent of baroque or Renaissance splendor. The exaggerated scale of the central figure compared to the soldiers below evokes a sense of theatricality and irony. Through this work, Litvinov explores the themes of ego, identity, and historical fantasy. By inserting himself into the garb and aura of a noble warrior from the past, the artist blurs the line between self-image and mythology, simultaneously celebrating and satirizing the grandiosity of historical portraiture. The flamboyant poses, dynamic figures, and intricate details reflect Litvinov's fascination with power, pageantry, and the performative nature of identity.
