Description
This artwork is a compelling example of expressionist portraiture, characterized by its bold, textured brushstrokes and emotive visage. The subject's face is rendered with dynamic, swirling lines, capturing a dramatic sense of emotion—anguish, perhaps, or deep introspection. The palette is dominated by earthy tones, with stark contrasts between light and shadow, which serves to accentuate the facial features and convey depth. The layers of paint add a three-dimensional quality, drawing the viewer into the intense emotional world of the piece. The eyes and mouth are particularly striking, imbued with a sense of movement and vitality, as if caught in a moment of profound human experience. This piece stands out for its raw, visceral energy and the artist's ability to convey complex emotions through a deceptively simple composition.
Note- This work is done on disposed X-Ray Film after treating it with Photo Chemicals to remove Black silver.
Presentation
Anand Manchiraju is an Indian artist whose multidisciplinary practice blends painting, photography, and experimental techniques. Influenced by his artist father, he began painting in childhood and later studied at JNTU. His work explores themes including nature, spirituality, daily life, and the human figure. Anand employs oils and acrylics on canvas, as well as unconventional materials such as bromide paper and x-ray film, using photographic chemicals to develop what he terms “photo-paintings.” His style spans impressionistic and abstract modes. Over his career, he has produced thousands of artworks and held numerous solo exhibitions across India. He also served as President of the Andhra Academy of Arts for over 30 years, promoting artistic engagement in the region. Anand’s practice continues to evolve through constant experimentation with mediums and materials, reflecting his commitment to innovation and exploration across traditional and contemporary formats.
