Description

AAA5326

The oil painting on Cardboard titled "Mountain Flower Fields" captures the vibrant and untamed beauty of an alpine landscape, where nature is shown in its purest and most invigorating form. Executed with expressive strokes and a rich, tactile use of impasto, the artist brings to life a moment suspended between stillness and gentle movement—where a field of wildflowers rolls gently toward distant mountains under a sky streaked with light and clouds. The foreground bursts with energy and color. Dominated by luminous shades of green, the flower-strewn meadow is rendered in thick, sweeping applications of paint, capturing the textures and rhythm of grasses stirred by the mountain breeze. Hints of bright yellow blossoms scattered across the field add to the sense of natural abundance, their petals seemingly catching and holding the light. This golden layer dances across the green in a joyful melody of color, creating a feeling of openness and renewal. To the right of the field, a copse of slender trees rises, their trunks dark and rooted, contrasting with the flickering lightness of their foliage. These trees stand like silent witnesses to the scene, reaching upward with branches tinged in hues of olive, sienna, and soft ochre. The brushwork here is looser, almost sketch-like in places, allowing the forms to blend gently into the surroundings and enhance the organic unity of the composition. In the middle distance, rolling hills gently unfold, painted in earthy greens, dusty browns, and lavender shadows. These subtle tonal shifts suggest a gradual elevation, guiding the viewer's gaze toward the magnificent blue-violet mountains that rise beyond. These peaks are rendered in smooth, elongated gestures—majestic but not foreboding—wrapped in soft mists and kissed by the cool tones of early morning or twilight. They are not only a geographic destination but a spiritual one, evoking a sense of distance, aspiration, and peace. Above it all stretches a vast, expressive sky—painted in swirling layers of periwinkle, blush, lilac, and silvery cloud forms. The brushstrokes are vigorous yet delicate, suggesting wind movement and the play of sunlight diffusing through moisture-laden air. This sky is not a passive backdrop but an active participant in the emotional landscape, setting the tone for the entire work. It fills the viewer with a sense of airiness and freedom, making one feel as if they could inhale the crisp mountain air and feel the wild grasses underfoot.

Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.

1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).

Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.

Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.

Since 2000 - Independent artist.

Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.

In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."

Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.

Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.

Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.

His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.

Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.

There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.

Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.

Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
