Acrylic, watercolour and ink on mineral stone sheet.

This striking artwork vividly captures the viewer's imagination with its swirling shades of teal, green and purple. The composition references layers of emotions that manifest like ethereal monoliths at oceanic depths. At the center, a bold, jagged line of white sharply bisects the piece, creating a dynamic contrast that arrests the eye and invites contemplation of division and connection. The interplay of translucent and opaque layers adds remarkable depth. Makani's mastery of color and texture is evident, making this work a captivating exploration of light, contrast and emotion.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This unique, original painting is created with highest quality archival and lightfast acrylics, watercolours and inks on a mineral stone sheet.

Titled, dated and signed on the backside of the artwork. A signed Certificate of Authenticity is enclosed.

The painting is supplied unframed to ensure maximum protection during shipping and full framing flexibility. The artist recommends unglazed framing for optimal enjoyment of the artwork, as standard glazing distracts with reflections and anti-reflective glazing tends to distort colours.

About the unique surface:

Mineral stone sheets are made from calcium carbonate (limestone) mixed with a small amount of organic resin, combining the luxurious texture of mineral stone with the pliability of paper. Unlike traditional paper, this surface is not sensitive to humidity and does not deform or buckle when moist. Furthermore, the mineral stone sheet adopts stained glass properties when lit from the back, transforming the painting. Mineral stone sheets do not contain wood, do not require deforestation and are considerably more environmentally friendly than canvas and traditional pulp-based paper.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“My practice explores the shifting boundaries between presence and absence, where memory, perception and sensation converge and dissolve. Living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and permanent pain deeply informs my awareness of fragility, resilience, gratitude and the capacity for joy. I combine acrylics, watercolours and inks on mineral stone sheets to construct layered, fluid environments inviting introspection. Each painting acts as a threshold, reflecting the viewer's inner landscape and shifting with their emotional state. I aim to offer not resolution, but a contemplative experience that invites quiet exploration of the complexity of being." — Milena Makani
