Description
SERB 1225
The Oil painting Canvas titled “Estate outside the city" transports the viewer into a vivid scene of aristocratic life, where grandeur and refinement meet the serene beauty of the countryside. The central focus is a majestic estate building with stately columns, symmetrical facades, and elegant staircases, exuding the aura of classical architecture. Bathed in the brilliance of daylight, the estate glows with warm shades of cream, lavender, and pastel hues, highlighting its structural magnificence against the deep cobalt sky. The artist employs a rich impasto technique, where bold, textured strokes bring life to stone, foliage, and fabric alike, making the canvas almost tactile, as though the viewer could run their fingers along the painted surfaces. In front of the estate unfolds a captivating narrative of daily grandeur. Horse-drawn carriages arrive gracefully along a path lined with blooming roses and meticulously trimmed greenery, their polished wheels and noble steeds embodying timeless elegance. Figures dressed in period attire stroll leisurely, their gowns flowing with delicate folds rendered in vibrant tones of ivory, crimson, blue, and ochre. Parasols tilt in the sunlight, hats rest atop shadowed brows, and silhouettes of gentlemen in formal suits create a contrast of sophistication against the luminous background. The human presence does not dominate but rather enriches the overall ambiance, portraying a harmonious blend of architectural mastery, nature's splendor, and cultured leisure. The composition directs the eye fluidly: from the blooming garden in the foreground, to the procession of figures and carriages, and finally upward to the towering estate itself, crowned with a dome and rhythmic colonnade. The balance between vertical strength and horizontal expanse creates a sense of order and timeless permanence. Each detail, from the play of sunlight on the white stone to the gentle shadows stretching across the path, adds depth and atmosphere, inviting the viewer to imagine themselves stepping into this refined world. The brushwork alternates between precise linear definition in the building and looser, more expressive textures in the foliage and sky, establishing a dialogue between control and freedom. This canvas does more than depict a location; it evokes a mood of nostalgia for an era when estates outside the city represented both status and retreat. It celebrates the harmony between human ambition and the natural environment, where cultivated beauty framed daily life with ceremony and grace. The scene radiates not only visual charm but also symbolic meaning—of stability, continuity, and the aspiration to transcend the ordinary through culture and architecture. The artist's choice of luminous, saturated colors amplifies the sense of an idealized memory, suspended in time yet alive with motion and light.
Presentation
Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.
1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.
Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.
Since 2000 - Independent artist.
Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
