The Oil painting on Cardboard titled “Fishermen at sea" captures a moment of labor and resilience set against the dramatic backdrop of the restless sea. The composition centers on two boats, one anchored near the rocky shore with fishermen at work, the other slightly further out, braving the cresting waves. Through bold brushstrokes and a palette dominated by shades of turquoise, deep green, and storm-gray, the artist brings to life the eternal struggle and harmony between human endeavor and the untamed forces of nature. At the forefront of the painting, a vivid blue boat rests precariously close to the jagged rocks. Its weathered surface, painted with thick, textured strokes, tells of many encounters with the sea. Two fishermen occupy this vessel, each absorbed in his task. One, standing tall against the shifting balance of the boat, pulls at the fishing net, his red shirt a striking accent against the blue waters. His posture conveys determination, a quiet mastery learned through years of repetition. Another figure, smaller in scale but no less significant, assists him, leaning over the edge of the boat, guiding the net with steady hands. Their combined effort symbolizes not only the necessity of teamwork but also the inherited rhythm of maritime life, where every gesture is both survival and tradition. In the middle ground, a second boat rises dramatically on the crest of a wave. Painted with dynamic strokes of emerald and jade, the water swells with energy, suggesting both danger and opportunity. A lone fisherman, dressed in a bright yellow garment, leans into his oar, steering with instinct and strength. He is not defeated by the swell; rather, he becomes part of its rhythm, his figure silhouetted against the churning sea. The contrast between the stability of the anchored boat and the precarious elevation of the second emphasizes the dualities of seafaring life—safety and risk, steadiness and unpredictability. Above, the sky is a vast expanse of gray, heavy with the weight of gathering clouds. The brushwork here is looser, almost turbulent, mirroring the unsettled sea below. Yet, within this gray expanse, flecks of lighter hues break through, suggesting fleeting hope and the possibility of calmer weather. Seagulls soar across the scene, their white wings catching the light as they circle the boats. Their presence adds both movement and a sense of timelessness, as though they are eternal witnesses to the cycles of man and sea.

Zhitomir artist Suprunchuk Yuri Sergeevich Born on April 11, 1961, in the city of Zhitomir. Graduated from the Zheleznogorsk Art School, Russia (1982). Teachers in the specialty: V. Chukuev, E. Nikulin. Painter. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (2002). Major works: "Near the house" (2005), "Winter on the outskirts of Zhitomir" (2006), "Autumn still life" (2004). Lived and worked in the city of Zhitomir.
