Description
This work depicts the artist facing a mirror, her reflection splitting in two in an intriguing composition. The mirror, divided into panels, adds a geometric dimension, fragmenting her image and creating a kind of visual game. The warm tones, dominated by oranges and browns, lend the scene an intimate yet unsettling atmosphere. The intense, contemplative gaze reveals profound introspection, as if the painter were probing her soul through her own reflection. The crisp lines and subtle details of her hairstyle and features accentuate her serene yet determined expression. This painting explores the theme of identity and perception, prompting the viewer to reflect on their own image and how it is perceived in a fragmented world.
Presentation
Lucie Kerouedan is an artist whose work is characterized by a simultaneously poetic and raw approach to subjects such as identity, nature, and human relationships. Her paintings generally depict human and/or animal figures in liminal spaces (interiors, enclosed spaces, or indeterminate floating spaces).
Exploring through her works subjects such as intimacy, violence, and vulnerability, the links between women and men, human beings and animals, she paints figurative canvases in oil whose tender colors contrast with the inquisitive looks and often self-assured bodies of her characters.
Autobiographical elements, literary references and social issues blend in Kerouedan's painting into a strange atmosphere of contemporary fairy tale.
In 2025, she participated in the annual exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London, the Estivales de Sceaux, two group exhibitions on Paris (Da Morire and Salo), as well as the Romanesque biennial.
She lives and works between Rennes and Paris.
