Description
This work reflects on the city as a living organism—unfinished, fluid, and multilayered. The viewer is immersed in a state of presence, an experience of being in the urban fabric woven from time, memory, movement, and pause. The painting opens a space for reflection.
The city here exists through layers. Each layer preserves traces of lived moments: passing footsteps, forgotten conversations, expectations that never fully took shape. These layers do not follow a linear order. They overlap, interrupt, and react to one another, creating both tension and balance. The surface feels like an archive, where past and present coexist without clear boundaries.
Structure plays a central role. Despite the asymmetry, the composition seems held together by an internal logic. This balance is not fixed; it is constantly rebuilt, like urban life itself. What appears chaotic is sustained by invisible rhythms. The painting captures not a single moment, but a continuous process of becoming.
The work invites the viewer into personal experience. Anyone who has lived in a city knows the feeling when familiar routes become a personal map of memories. The absence of recognizable landmarks makes the image universal. It could represent any city, all cities, or a city center shaped by personal history. Meaning arises not from identification, but from resonance.
The painting also addresses time—not historical time, but accumulated time. Time that settles, destroys, returns, and leaves traces. The surface becomes a metaphor for this slow accumulation, where nothing completely disappears. The city is presented as a carrier of memory, not a backdrop for events.
Silence is important here, but it is not emptiness. It is a dense, inhabited silence, like the pause between sounds, when awareness is heightened. Without figurative elements, the viewer is invited to slow down and remain in this quiet tension, without seeking clear explanations.
