Description
Dreamfare II is a small-scale oil painting by British artist Lucy du Sautoy, whose work explores perception, memory, and fleeting observation through the motif of the window.
In this intimate composition, the surface of a window becomes a space for playful intervention, where simple smiley-face doodles appear drawn into condensation or misted glass. These transient marks sit between interior and exterior worlds, capturing a moment of lightness and spontaneity within an otherwise quiet, atmospheric scene.
Blending semi-realism with conceptual reflection, du Sautoy transforms an everyday gesture into a meditation on daydreaming, presence, and the act of seeing. The work reflects her ongoing interest in how external views are shaped by internal emotion and passing thought.
Presentation
"The window as a subject has become my platform to explore the mechanics of painting and to register human experience. I like to consider my paintings as contemplations of the changing surface of everyday window panes, acknowledging random moments in time and space helped by changes in weather, the season, or the light of the day. And how our experience of gazing out of a window can be touched by memories, hopes, uncertainties and daydreams."
Lucy regularly exhibits in group and solo shows. She is frequently commissioned and her work is held in private and corporate collections across the UK, and in Europe and the US.
Lucy graduated in 2015, with a first class Diploma in Fine Art from the Art Academy, London. She lives and works in London with her husband and four children.
In February 2019 Lucy won the Artists and Illustrators Magazine "Artist of the Year 2019".
