In MOCS' practice, contemporary figurative painting in mixed media on canvas becomes a field of friction where gesture leads and the image responds. There is urgency, presence, and a contained energy that transforms the domestic environment into an emotionally charged territory.
Mixed media on canvas: sustained visual tension
The pictorial surface is built through gestural layers that advance and contradict one another. Grays, blacks, and whites dominate the plane, creating a dense, almost urban atmosphere where the thick stroke sets rhythm and direction. Accents of orange, ochre, and red emerge as warning signals, activating the gaze and reinforcing a constant sense of nervous energy. This contemporary artwork does not seek chromatic balance, but perceptual intensity, connecting with the languages of contemporary expressionism and gestural figuration without softening its visual impact.
Contemporary figuration: impulse versus control
Here, the figure is not defined; it resists. The canine body appears fragmented, captured mid-movement, as if the image were occurring while it is being formed. The contrast between dominant white contours and dark masses generates visual and emotional friction. There is no closed narrative—only a suspended action that stays, that accompanies, that remains active even after the gaze moves away. Born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, and a graduate of the Botticelli Institute for Art and Restoration with a degree in Fine Arts, his interest in art began through a fascination with comics, films, and rock music. The catharsis of expressing disruptive emotions led him to find in art an ideal channel of expression. His work is the result of a journey through intangible emotions, guided by the need to communicate feelings and anxieties rooted in universal themes. He understands the act of creation as a raw and spontaneous experience, strongly influenced by movements such as Art Brut, Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Expressionism, and by artists including Jean Dubuffet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Rufino Tamayo. Elements such as color, gesture, line, point, figure, and texture function as tools to construct a deeply personal aesthetic experience, inviting the viewer to accompany him on this journey and to connect with their own emotions and inner concerns.
